Western Hillside Reservoir

Scope: Construct a high-hazard dam and a 129 acre foot reservoir at an elevation of 9,000 feet with a critical time schedule constraint of 60 days to enable Vail to host the 1997 World Cup Downhill Ski Races. The project was completed ahead of schedule even with eleven change orders and a significant change in conditions. The project included 58,000 CYS of rock excavation; 170,000 CYS of common excavation; 412 LF of 36 inch outlet piping and structures; 3,510 LF of underdrain and toe drain; 4,800 CYS of liner sand; staff gage and piezometers.
