Upper Beaver Brook Dam Spillway Construction & Embankment Modifications
Scope: Reconstruction of a high hazard dam, and the construction of a new spillway. The scope included drilling; blasting; and the removal of 100,000 CYS of rock. Also included was the reconstruction of the dam embankment, which required filling from the toe of the existing dam to 26′ above the old crest resulting in a new dam height of 120′. A concrete encased outlet line was also placed. All filter material was manufactured from an on-site source, which required setting up and running a primary jaw crusher feeding a 54″ cone crusher with three deck screens to produce 20,000 TNS of filter material. Geo-technical monitoring instrumentation was installed, along with wetland construction and seeding.
